Australia Day
Each Australia Day, we celebrate what makes our nation great – our ‘fair go’ approach, our freedom and democracy, and our diversity. It's a time to Reflect, Respect, Celebrate.
From the first Australians and the Dreamtime to the early years of settlement, to the Eureka Stockade, and the young ANZAC diggers facing unbeatable odds. Australia has always, and will continue, to tell its story through its people.
Through the Citizen of the Year Awards, Council acknowledges its remarkable people, who volunteer their time and expertise into community life. These Awards are presented at ceremonies and gatherings in each major town; normally in the winners’ town of residence.
Find information on the Citizens of the Year 2021 here.
The events happen at different times across Wakefield, with either a cooked breakfast or lunch available. This year, Balaklava and Blyth’s event will include Citizenship Ceremonies – the presentation of new Australian citizens.
