Answer

There are rules on clearing native vegetation. The Department for Environment and Water has an overview of all the rules around native vegetation management here.

The Native Vegetation Act 1991 protects native vegetation in our State. Clearance is only allowed in cases listed as exemptions in the Native Vegetation Regulations 2003 or if you make an application to the Native Vegetation Council.

It is important to note that clearance involves any type of killing, destruction, removal or severing of native vegetation. This includes grazing, burning, flooding, draining, trimming, harvesting or any other activity causing substantial damage to native vegetation.

If you are in any doubt please contact the Department.
