Our Culture & Values
A team of respectful and empowered people committed to providing exceptional service.
We are here to provide exceptional customer service to our residents. To achieve this, we take a ‘one team’ approach to what we do every day and to the challenges we face.
Wakefield Regional Council came into effect on 1 July 1997 following the amalgamation of the former District Councils of Blyth-Snowtown and Wakefield Plains. The amalgamation occurred at a period of time when significant boundary reform of the local government industry was being driven by the State Government. As a result the number of councils in South Australia had reduced from 118 to 68 by July 1999.
The geographical area comprising Wakefield Regional Council has had significant local government boundary alteration over the years. Prior to 1983 the area was serviced by 5 local district councils they being Balaklava, Blyth, Owen, Port Wakefield, and Snowtown.
We show our culture through our shared values – safety first, exceptional service, one team, positive and supportive, respect and valued, and empowered.
These values guide us on how we want to be treated and inform new team members on what we hold ourselves accountable to.
We put safety first
Nothing is more important to us than making sure our employees and contractors feel safe and are kept safe. We have strict PPE and WHS policies in place and although we all carry different responsibilities as per our position description. In the long run, safety comes from the top and is everyone’s responsibility. This also includes mental wellbeing for which we have trained, on the ground staff and established industry-accredited support systems.
We deliver exceptional service
We want to bring value to our community and we always ensure we treat everyone the way we’d like to be treated. Creating positive experiences for customers starts with us being open, down-to-earth, transparent and using our knowledge to back our decisions, but also being unafraid of fresh alternatives. We are also committed to closing off cases, keeping everyone informed and staying accountable.
We work as one team
We all work to our strengths and help others to do the same. With a shared sense of openness, transparency and respect for others we can do more together than apart.
We create a positive and supportive workplace
The average person will spend more time in their workplace than anywhere else, so it’s important that it's a place of positivity and support. We offer flexible working arrangements, including working from home arrangements, and a great focus on training and development.
We respect and value all people
We use good judgement to ensure what we do earns respect, builds trust and is inclusive for everyone. No one is above our values and no one deserves to feel left out.
We are empowered to achieve great things
Working together in a dynamic team where there is vast number of different skillsets fosters great outcomes for our collective goal: serving our community. Giving our people the freedom to react quickly to issues and be trusted to get the job done the WRC way, only reaps better and more timely outcomes for our customers.
