Public Interest Disclosures

Wakefield Regional Council is committed to transparency and accountability in our administrative and management practices and value the environment, health and safety of the community.

Under the Public Interest Disclosure Act 2018 an Informant may make a disclosure of:

1. Public Administration Information that raises a potential issue of corruption, misconduct or maladministration in public administration.

2. Environment and Health Information that raises a potential issue of a substantial risk to the environment or to the health and safety of the public generally or a significant section of the public.

For a disclosure to be considered an appropriate disclosure of environmental and health information it must be made to a relevant authority.

Council procedure

Our Public Interest Disclosure Procedure sets out how Council deals with a public interest disclosure, and the protections granted to the Informant.

While only Public Officer can make a Disclosure of Public Adminstration Information, anyone can make a disclosure about environmental and health information. You can make a disclosure by  confidentially contacting one of Council's Officers by email or phone. The Responsible Officer will advise you of the process and the protections available.

The Independent Commission Against Corruption have provided Public Interest Disclosure Guidelines to assist the community in understanding the protections under the PID Act.
