Noise nuisance

Construction noise

Noise from construction, building and demolition works. This can occur from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm, Monday to Saturday. It must not occur on Sundays or public holidays.

Non-fixed tools and machines

Noise from domestic and other non-fixed tools and machines; such as lawnmowers, leaf blowers and angle grinders. This can occur from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm, Monday to Saturday & 9:00 am to 8:00 pm on Sundays and public holidays. Despite these times, the operator must also take steps to ensure that the noise does not become unreasonable.

Fixed machine noise

Noise from machines that are fixed in place, such as pool pumps or air conditioners. In these cases, the noise must not travel from one domestic premise to a habitable room or outdoor entertaining area on a neighbouring property to an unreasonable extent.

People noise

Concerns regarding noise including noisy parties, loud music, musical instruments or revving vehicles should be directed to SA Police on 131 444.

Animal noise

Animal noise may be considered a nuisance if it unreasonably interferes with (or is likely to interfere unreasonably with) the neighbour’s enjoyment of their property. If you are experiencing an unreasonable noise nuisance being caused by a pet animal, we encourage you to contact your neighbour in a friendly manner and allow them to address the situation before contacting us.

When should a nuisance be reported?

In the first instance, we recommend discussing the matter with your neighbour to bring the issue to their attention in a friendly manner. They may not be aware that they are causing a problem. This will allow them to resolve the matter before involving Council.

If the matter continues to be a nuisance, you may log a request for service, by completing a Nuisance Diary for seven (7) days and email to admin@wrc.sa.gov.au, post to PO Box 167 Balaklava SA 5461 or deliver to Balaklava Civic Centre Scotland Place Balaklava.
