Tree maintenance
Looking after trees in our streets and on reserves is a key function of Council. Some of the maintenance we carry out includes pruning, pest treatment for mature trees and watering. Contractors are sometimes employed by Council when work is beyond the capacity of staff, or where specialist skills are required. Residents are not allowed to prune street or reserve trees. However, they may report when maintenance work is needed on street and reserve trees by phoning us on 8862 0800 or by email .
Planting of trees on roadside
Did you know that landowners who wish to plant any vegetation on public roadsides, must first obtain an approval from Council? This is to ensure public safety and protection of utility service infrastructure, particularly underground services.
There are also specific requirements regarding the location of different types of vegetation. If you would like to plant anything on the roadside please contact Council’s Infrastructure Services Department for further information.
Wayward trees
If residents discover a tree on Council property that has fallen and created a hazard for the community they are encouraged to call Council’s office on 8862 0800 or take a photo and email it to us.
Trees for Life
Wakefield Regional Council is a life member of Trees For Life. A community program working to revegetate South Australia and conserve its native flora sanctuaries.
Each year Council receives 500 trees and plants from the program which are planted in and around our parklands and other public spaces.
