Local nuisance
Local nuisance is described as "any adverse impact on the amenity value of an area, which unreasonably interferes with, or is likely to unreasonably interfere with, the enjoyment of that area by people in that area."
The Local Nuisance & Litter Control Act 2016 was implemented by the State Government to provide an increased focus on Local Government management of local nuisance, litter and illegal dumping matters across South Australia.
Under the Act, Councils inherit an array of functions and responsibilities previously undertaken by the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA). These responsibilities will include having to investigate complaints about noise, odours, smoke, fumes or dust, animals and insects, insanitary conditions on-premises and unsightly conditions on-premises, caused by human activity or lack of activity.
