1000 Outstanding Dog Regos with Two Weeks to Go
| 30 August 2019 (amended: 19 August 2019) |
Wakefield Community Compliance Officer Pieter Mur says registration is very simple now, the Dogs and Cats Online (DACO) website is a one stop shop for updating pet details, renewing current registrations and processing new registrations.
“With only two weeks to go before the cut off date (31 August), we still have about 1000 dog registrations yet to be renewed,” Mr Mur said.
“Under the recent changes to the Dog & Cat Management Act, it’s now compulsory for all dogs to be microchipped, any dog or cat born after 1 July 2018 to be desexed and all dogs over the age of three months to be registered.”
“Through the central DACO database we aim to increase the likelihood of lost or impounded dogs being reunited with their owners, as well as reduce the number of abandoned pets.”
“If a dog isn’t registered we may not be able to return the pet to its family if it escapes. It’s also an offence under the Act to have an unregistered dog and we want to avoid a situation where people are fined simply because they haven’t renewed their rego.”
Council was particularly keen to ensure dog breeders in the region understood their obligations, which have been communicated over the past year and can be found on the Dog and Cat Management Board website: www.dogandcatboard.com.au.
To register a new puppy or renew your dog’s current registration go to www.dogsandcatsonline.com.au.
“Of course, Council can help guide owners and breeders through the process if they are unsure and I’d urge anyone with questions to contact us on 8862 0800 as soon as possible.”
Council’s website also has information on registration and microchipping requirements, and bonus information about affordable microchipping services. Visit www.wrc.sa.gov.au/dogs for more.
