Community Grants given the green light

Published 15th August 2024

15 community groups in Wakefield Regional Council will share in $100k of funding as this year’s Annual Community Grants Program is announced.

Grants are submitted in either the Minor or Major categories. Minor Grants fund projects up to $2,000, while Major Grants fund projects from $2,001 to $25,000.

This year Council supported four Minor Grants and 11 Major Grants out of a total of 24 applications.

The grants will support projects across Wakefield from tractor upgrades for the Blyth/Snowtown Football Club ($15,000), protecting historical records in the Balaklava Museum ($15,000), Hamley Bridge Bowling Club extension ($4,000) and supporting the re-surfacing of the Snowtown Community Swimming Pool ($15,000).

“We decided to part fund more projects this year to spread the power of the funding, allowing more community groups to share in the grants,” Mayor Reid said.

“The range in projects was excellent to see from sporting clubs to history groups. This funding always helps to improve and expand on what our community groups can accomplish.

“Projects funded this year continue to add to our communities and support Council’s Wakefield 2030 vision,” Mayor Reid said.
