Council staff lend a hand in flood affected areas
WAKEFIELD Regional Council is sending seven staff and two trucks to support efforts to construct emergency levee banks along flood prone areas of the River Murray.
Over the next four weeks staff members will head to the Riverland in pairs to help construct the levee banks in the Berri Barmera Council area.
CEO Andrew MacDonald said he was proud of the Council team members who had volunteered their time to support efforts to stem floodwaters in the Riverland and support a community in need.
“Our thoughts are with those affected by the floodwaters and we will continue to support the affected areas the best way we can, by supplying staff and machinery when needed.
“Local government plays an important role in emergency management and it’s heartening to see councils pull together to support each other in times of need”.
This will be the second time in recent years Council has deployed staff members to help in emergency situations – with Council previously sending employees to Kangaroo Island to help recovery efforts following the 2020 bushfires.
