Council surveying storm damage

Our crews have been in Snowtown today assessing the damage caused by the ‘superstorm’

Wakefield Regional Council is assessing the damage caused by a ‘superstorm’ that carried winds of up to 150 km/h through Snowtown on the weekend.
A number of homes, businesses and community buildings, including the Blyth-Snowtown Football Club, are among those damaged. Council has been surveying the damage to community and Council property.
Wakefield Mayor Rodney Reid said while the impact of the storm is still being assessed Council’s priority is the safety of the community.
“Right now our residents’ safety is paramount and our crews are working alongside the community to begin the big clean up,” Mayor Reid said.
“During this time we need to look out for each other and help those who have been impacted as quickly as possible and it’s important that we secure the structure of our buildings and contain what damage we can.
“Just last week I had the pleasure of officially launching the Blyth Snowtown Football Clubrooms and it’s gut wrenching to see the damage that has been inflicted on that building.
“I’ve had a look around Snowtown this morning and there is a lot of work to do. But the Wakefield region and Snowtown community are exceptionally resilient and Council will work hard with them and other agencies to ensure we can overcome this damage as quickly as possible.”
