Councillor Rankine elected as Deputy Mayor

Published 29th April 2024

Councillor Michael Rankine has been elected as the new Deputy Mayor of Wakefield Regional Council at April’s Council meeting.

Previous Deputy Mayor Denni Agnew resigned effective immediately on April 16, leading to the election of a new Deputy Mayor.

Deputy Mayor Rankine was nominated by Councillor Barbara Chappell and was elected unopposed.

This will be Deputy Mayor Rankine’s first time serving in the Deputy role since being elected to Council in January 2018, filling a central ward vacancy.

Mayor Reid said he was glad Deputy Mayor Rankine has taken the opportunity to represent Council in his new role.

“Deputy Mayor Rankine has a wealth of knowledge – he is currently in his second term as a Councillor and brings with him experience from his 17 years of service in local government,” Mayor Reid said.

“His excellent local knowledge and deep understanding of our region will help to continue Council’s vision as he serves as Deputy Mayor for the remaining term of Council.”
