Council’s CEO resigns to take the reins at Town of Walkerville
Wakefield Regional Council CEO Andrew MacDonald has resigned to pursue new leadership opportunities as the new CEO at the Town of Walkerville council.
Mr MacDonald has led Council since May 2019 and will commence as the new CEO for the Town of Walkerville in September. He will stay on board at Wakefield in the meantime to ensure a smooth transition to new leadership.
Mr MacDonald said Wakefield Regional Council will always remain close to his heart and he wished the organisation and community all the best into the future.
“There’s a great team and culture here with able people, the organisation will continue to head in the same direction that they have over the past four years,” Mr MacDonald said.
“It’s been a pleasure to lead Wakefield, but the opportunity to lead the Town of Walkerville was one I couldn’t turn down.
Throughout his time at Wakefield Mr Macdonald has created an award winning ‘One Team Culture’, which has helped drive excellent outcomes for Wakefield, including Main Street make overs and some of the region’s largest projects to date which includes the renewal of our local swimming pools.
Mayor Rodney Reid said when Mr MacDonald was appointed as CEO, Council was seeking a change in culture within staff and communities.
“While we’re not keen to see Andrew leave – I understand that he has to continue his career development and moving to a metropolitan council is that next step,” Mayor Reid said.
“Andrew has created a stronger Council in his short time here and will leave it in a better position than it was when he joined.
“I can’t emphasise my appreciation enough for the work Andrew has done for Council and the communities he has helped throughout his time here, his sense of humour and willingness to listen to those within the community has enriched our Council area.
A selection panel and consultants will be appointed to help with the hiring of a replacement CEO before Mr MacDonald departs Council.
