Feedback sought for Barunga Gap Railway Corridor and Beaufort Reserve Biodiversity management plans

Published 14th November 2025

Council has developed Draft Biodiversity Plans for both the Barunga Gap Railway Corridor and Beaufort Reserve and is now seeking feedback on both Draft Plans to help guide management of the sites.

Both plans were developed thanks to grant funding from the Northern and Yorke Landscape Board’s Grassroots Grants.

Inspections and surveys undertaken by Irongrass Environmental Rehabilitation Services identified significant areas of protected native vegetation with a large diversity of native species across both sites.

Mayor Rodney Reid said protecting native vegetation within Wakefield was vital as these remnant vegetation sites hold such a large variety of our local flora and fauna.

“If you want to have your say on the plans now is the time to do so as we look to establish the best way to care for these sites,” Mayor Reid said.

“These plans are to help guide council on the management of the land and to help us maintain the sites.

“If you live close by, within Wakefield or use the sites I encourage you to read the plans and have your say to help us shape them,” Mayor Reid said.

Feedback for the plan has now closed:
