Minor and Major grants return to support community projects
Council’s Minor and Major Community Grants are open for 2026/27, with major grant categories able to benefit from up to $25,000 in funding and $2,000 for minor grants.
Each year these grants help fund great local community projects within Wakefield.
Last year’s grants provided over $99,000 in funding across nine projects for local community groups.
Projects included in the funding were the Balaklava Croquet Clubroom Redevelopment, Hamley Bridge Oval Nets and an Honorarium Board for the Blyth Tennis Club.
To be eligible for funding community groups must have projects that are aligned with Council’s Wakefield 2030 plan, they must be investment ready and inclusive and accessible. The projects must be on community land.
Preference will be given to applications:
- Where the applicant organisation is matching the overall cost either through dollar-for-dollar funding or in-kind contributions
- For grant applications valued $10,001 or greater, that show evidence of applying for relevant Australian, State or other grant funding.
Community groups looking to apply for funding must be based within the Wakefield region and the grants are subject to Council approving the 2026/27 budget.
Mayor Rodney Reid encourages all community groups to consider the projects they’re looking to complete in the upcoming year.
“If your community organisation has an exciting idea that could make a real difference, this program is a fantastic way to help turn that idea into reality.” Mayor Reid said.
“These grants are designed to help community groups transform great ideas into meaningful projects that support local clubs and organisations.” Mayor Reid said.
All the grant application details can be found on Council’s website at www.wrc.sa.gov.au
Guidelines for applying to each funding category can also be found on Council’s website and should be read carefully before applying.
Applications for the Community Grants program close May 29, 2026, and applicants will be notified if their project has been successful in July.
