More flexibility for development in Wakefield region

Amendments to Wakefield Regional Council’s Development Plan have been approved, allowing broader options for development.
Minister for Planning, John Rau, and the Environment, Resources and Development Committee have officially approved Council’s amended Development Plan offering more flexibility for development in certain areas.
Several changes have been made within Port Wakefield. Council is now offering greater flexibility for building designs within the tourist accommodation zone, including the Port Wakefield Wharf. This will improve and modernize aesthetics for the growing town.
Floor-levels for outbuildings, such as sheds and carports, have been reduced in some areas of Port Wakefield, resulting in less earthwork requirements.
Furthermore, a parcel of land in Balaklava has been rezoned to accommodate future expansion of the Horizon Christian School, a well-respected co-educational Christian school located in Balaklava.
CEO, Jason Kuchel stated, “There is huge potential for population and economic growth within our Council region. Amending development requirements to accommodate the area is another step in promoting these opportunities.”
