Owen Pool nearing completion

Published 6th February 2023

The Owen Swimming Pool upgrade will be delayed due to contractor availability and supplier shortages, resulting in the pool not being ready to open for the 2022/23 swimming season.

TPS Aquatics, the contractor engaged to deliver the Owen Swimming Pool upgrade advised Council that due to a shortage of contractor availability for trades such as tilers and concreters, the project will face a delay of two months.

Despite these delays, significant works have already been completed at the pool including;

* Demolition of old scum gutters, pool concourse and plant room slab

* A new gutter system has been installed

* The 25m pool central line has been decommissioned

* New side pool inlets are installed for the 25m lap pool & toddler pool

* New gutter return outlets have been installed in both pools

* New balance tanks for toddler pool are installed

* The 25m lap pool surround has been backfilled

Once the pool is completed, there is also a significant process of inducting and training committee members to educate them on operational maintenance and safety surrounding the pool.

Mayor Rodney Reid said taking the time to properly train committee members is important to ensure day to day operations of the pool will be run safely.

“Taking a little extra time to complete this great community asset will ensure Owen has an aquatic facility fully completed, with established landscaping, trained volunteers and lifeguards, all ready for the 2023/24 summer season,” Mayor Reid said.
