Cutting the speed limit through Pinery from 60km/hr to 50km/hr

Wakefield Regional Council is cutting the speed limit through Pinery from 60km/hr to 50km/hr, in a move to tame fast traffic through the heart of the settlement. The speed changes will be rolled out by Council by the end of April.

The speed reduction will affect a stretch of Pinery Road (Thornton Tce) that travels through the settlement. Council was prompted to make the change after feedback from locals concerned over the safety of residents and road users.

Mayor Rodney Reid said comments made by locals about noise, safety and the disruption caused by heavy vehicles all justified reducing the allowable speed.

“This project came about after a request was lodged through our Contact Council portal on our website,” Mayor Reid said.

“We’re hoping the changes that are set to be put in place provide some peace of mind to the residents of Pinery.

“Community safety is always first and foremost. We want our towns and settlements to be safe places for pedestrians, road users and residents to share.

“Lowering the speed to 50km/hr brings the road in line with other main roads in the Wakefield region that go through towns and that have residential properties lining them.”

Mayor Reid said side roads Finch Rd, Florence St, Elizabeth St and Melvin Tce that are without speed limits would also get signage installed through this project.
