Roundabout renewal in Balaklava

Published 13th March 2025

Construction of the Edith Terrace roundabout in Balaklava has now begun with demolition of the site complete.

Demolition of the roundabout commenced on Monday 24 February, with Council contractor SC Heinrich onsite removing the existing medians, concrete kerbing and water table.

Mayor Rodney Reid said work was progressing at a pleasing pace with the roundabout already demolished and profiling out of the existing road base already underway.

“Council’s contractor Downer have been onsite with their profiling machine cutting away 150mm of the old bitumen and rubble ready for us to grade and lay a new base,” Mayor Reid said.

Most of the rubble cut from the demolition of the roundabout will be reused again for the roundabout and any leftover will be used for future unsealed road renewals.

Council staff have been grading the site level ready for rubble to be carted on site.

“SA Power Networks have also been onsite taking the opportunity to install five new LED lights to replace the outdated lights currently in use. These new lights will help create a safer roundabout with more light at night for both drivers and pedestrians,” Mayor Reid said.

Kerb and water table works will start within the next two weeks with contractor Falzon on site concreting medians, kerbs and water tables with new pram ramps also installed for pedestrian access.

“I’d like to thank our community members for their patience throughout this project, this will be a great piece of community infrastructure renewed once completed. The finished project will help create a safer roundabout for many years to come,” Mayor Reid said.
