Trucks top Kybunga Road after Council works

Wakefield Mayor Rodney Reid said keeping the trucks moving, kept our industries moving.
The Kybunga Top Road culvert bridge upgrade has been completed, with trucks weighing over 10 tonnes now able to cross over it for the first time.
Wakefield Regional Council spent almost $100,000 on the project to make the journey for heavy vehicles more direct, cutting out the need to detour and reducing the risk of over-limit trucks attempting to cross.
During harvest, there will be more heavy machinery and trucks on our roads, with a number of them using this road to access local farms and fields, or to get to Clare and beyond. Council contracted S.C Heinrich & Co, of Clare, for the project, which took just over two weeks to unveil.

Wakefield Mayor Rodney Reid said keeping the trucks moving, kept our industries moving.

“Road freight transport is the backbone of agriculture and farming,” Mayor Reid said. “Wherever we can, we work to improve on safety for all road users, and with thousands of heavy vehicles trekking our region each year, we want to keep them moving easier and safer too.
“We have refigured the road for future users; making it wider and moving it over a small distance to create a straight approach up to the culvert bridge.”
Council crews are also reconstructing a portion of Kybunga Top Road, north of Eldredge Road this is because, overtime, constant heavy vehicle traffic can disturb a road’s structure, which causes potholes, cracks and the top rubble to spread.
“Roadworks are expected to be completed by January, and will work to improve the road’s drivability and make it better accessible.”
