VET Students of the year 2021
WAKEFIELD Regional Council’s 2021 Vocational Education and Training (VET) Student awards have been announced with Year 11 Horizon Christian School student Tammi Freebairn taking home the top honour.
With a keen passion for cooking, Tammi’s career may have only just begun but it’s flourishing alongside the team at Paulett Wines in the Clare Valley where Tammi is completing her vocational training.
Completing her Certificate II in kitchen operations last year, Tammi continues to further her skills and abilities by undertaking training in a certificate III in commercial cookery course with a dream of one day becoming a chef.
Runner up in the awards was Balaklava High School student Jayden Hendry who has been able to complete a certificate III in fitness and is currently in his first year of a plumbing apprenticeship with Catford Plumbing.
BALCO Australia continues to work alongside Council to award the hardest working students, who have excelled in their VET course or Australian School Based Apprenticeship /Traineeship.
Mayor Reid presented the awards, acknowledging the extra work and commitments the students had made to be selected for the awards.
“We are delighted knowing that the prize money presented to Wakefield’s VET Student of the Year goes towards their future and new opportunities,” Mayor Reid said.
“This award acknowledges the talents, creativity and achievements found in hands-on training or workplace-based learning. That’s the reason this program is so significant.”
