Thank y ou volunteers

Wakefield Regional Council is celebrating those who make a world of difference to our small communities with its annual Thank You Volunteer Event to be held this month.

National Volunteer Week (20-26 May) provides us with the opportunity to thank and acknowledge the hardwork and dedication of our region’s everyday superheroes who give up their time to lend a hand.

Without this event, many of these important people would probably go unacknowledged for their countless efforts.

Council is hosting a complimentary evening especially for our region's own superheroes on Monday 20 May at Ralli Park sports precinct in Balaklava (6pm-8pm).

Wakefield Mayor Rodney Reid said volunteers were fundamental to the running of our clubs, halls, events, committees and greatly contributed to the community-oriented lifestyle offered in our towns.

“We have an incredibly rich volunteering culture here in Wakefield region, with about 34 per cent of Wakefield residents volunteering their time through some group or organisation – that’s higher than the State’s average of 21 per cent,” Mayor Reid said.

“From Council’s community bus to our community management committees and other local organisations – all of these people make such a big difference.

“I’m excited by the opportunity to meet and thank these special people within our community.”
