Wakefield Regional Council is launching a gaming, anime and table-top games event - Wakefield 2022: Game on – during Youth Week in May.

Adelaide based Anime and Video Games festival group AVCON will be leading the free event bringing their anime, gaming, cosplay, pop culture, art and entertainment to the Balaklava Town Hall on May 20 from 2pm to 7pm.

All the latest gaming consoles will be booted on ready to play with Nintendo Switch, Xbox and Play Station consoles on offer, featuring games such as Mario Kart, Super Smash Brothers and a variety of other hit titles across all the consoles.

If video games aren’t quite your speed, AVCON will also be bringing its expansive collection of table-top board games, including a featured demo of Dungeons and Dragons.

AVCON Convenor Thao Vuong said her team was excited to bring a positive, fun filled event to the Wakefield region.

“We haven’t been able to host our major AVCON event in Adelaide for the past three years, so being able to bring these smaller events to regional communities has been great for us to share just how much fun our AVCON community has,” Thao said.

Thao highlighted the fact that beyond the gaming and board games, these events were a great time to highlight future career paths within the arts and entertainment industry.

“These smaller regional conventions are a great time for us to highlight potential career opportunities that are available within the gaming, anime and board game communities, more often than not people have no idea there’s careers in these fields.”

Wakefield Regional Council Mayor Rodney Reid said it was great to see such an interesting event chosen for this year’s Youth Week event.

“Video and board games aren’t often highlighted in our region, so shining a light on these activities will be great for those who don’t have the opportunity to access larger events in Adelaide,” Mayor Reid said.

“Wakefield 2022: Game on has been partly funded by Youth Week SA and we look forward to seeing everyone there creating another fantastic Youth Week event.”

Wakefield: Game on is a free social event for all to enjoy, with free food and drinks available throughout the afternoon.
