Wakefield 2030 landing in Balaklava

Blyth, Brinkworth and Port Wakefield have already taken part in shaping the new community strategic plan for our region, with Council staff recording and collating all responses from the forums for use when drafting up the 10 year plan.

Wakefield Mayor Rodney Reid said ideas had touched on all realms, including our region’s community facilities, sport, culture, history, sustainability and tourism.

So – which community forum will you be at? RSVP: right now, right here.

“We’ve noticed an emphasis on sustainability and becoming ‘greener’ in the feedback which we believe is driven by the current conversation on global warming, and its promising to see some quality discussion on this,” Mayor Reid said.

“Providing more services, like ones you’d expect in outer-Adelaide suburbs have also been frequent; in an effort to attract more families to live here. In addition to this, we have noticed a real fear about more empty shops on the main street in the responses.”

Council understands that to make the best plan for the whole community, it really needs as many people to have their say as possible.

“Council is on this journey with our community and our industries,” Mayor Reid said. “It was important for us to say to these groups – “what do you want” and to work with them on this, rather than consulting after the plan is drawn up.”

“Balaklava is up next – and it’s our most populated town with more businesses than our other major towns, so we want as many people to come along and have their say tomorrow.

“If you really can’t make it to this round, don’t stress, we are hosting other forums in Snowtown and Hamley Bridge in December, with more on the horizon in 2020.
