Wakefield 2030

What does Wakefield 2030 look like to you? Now’s the chance to have your say and help shape the future, as Wakefield Regional Council rolls out the first round of engagement for a new community strategic plan – Wakefield 2030.

A series of ‘Wakefield 2030’ forums will help Council understand what our community really wants in 10 years from now – helping to form a new shared vision for Council, residents and our industries.

Mayor Rodney Reid said Council wanted to develop a plan that incorporated the community’s vision for the region and outlined how we are going to get there.

“This is an exciting time for all of us – we live in a fantastic region and it’s important the whole community helps us shape the future for Wakefield,” Mayor Reid said.

“As part of the development of our community plan, we are rolling out an engagement program that will be a different approach to the past. Instead of drafting a document for comment, we’re asking the community to help us draft the plan right from the start.

“Working together – community and Council – we have the chance to make the best plan for our people, our places and our prosperity. It will be a plan we can all be proud of: it will guide our actions, allow us to track how we are performing and include ways for the Council and community to walk shoulder-to-shoulder as we create the region we all want to be a part of.”

Five community forums will be held in November and December 2019, with more on the horizon for 2020. All forums are open to anyone in the community, so pick a date and contact us to RSVP: by email admin@wrc.sa.gov.au or phone 8862 0800.

Council will be rolling out a second round of forums in 2020, along with a web survey, farmers’ forums and other sessions for key stakeholders. Watch this space!

Why the windmill in our logo?

Windmills are a feature of our landscape and a symbol of sustainability. They also represent energy, forward movement and momentum.

We want our engagement program to generate ideas that focus on a bright, sustainable future for our region - one where Council, the community and industries come together to create opportunities that see Wakefield prosper for generations to come.
