Planning and development - Site Visits

Site Visit
The Officer assessing your application may need to visit the site for a better understanding of the proposal.

Referrals
Your application may be referred internally within Council for expert advice, for example, the Infrastructure Department or to Council’s Heritage Advisor.

Some forms of development may require Council to refer an application to a Government Agency for comment. Schedule 8 of the Development Regulations prescribes which applications require referral.

Public Notification
Some forms of development require Council to undertake public notification. The majority of applications are category 1 and will not require public notification.

Category 2 developments require Council to write to adjacent land owners and/or occupiers advising them of the development and giving them the opportunity to comment. No appeal right applies to any person who objects to a Category 2 development.

Category 3 developments require Council to write to adjacent land owners and/or occupiers as well as place a notice in the local paper. Any person has an opportunity to comment on the development. Any person making a comment on the development has an opportunity to appeal Council’s decision or any conditions attached to that decision.

In these instances Council will allow 10 days for inspection of the application by appointment and for comments to be made.
